Israel says it killed Palestinian Mujahideen Brigades chief in Gaza
The Israeli military said on Saturday its forces had killed at least two senior members of the Palestinian Mujahideen Movement in strikes in Gaza City, including a commander accused of involvement in the deadly Oct. 7 attack on Israel.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet security agency said in a joint statement that As'ad Abu Sharaiya, head of the Mujahideen Brigades -- the armed wing of the Palestinian Mujahideen Movement -- was killed in a joint operation. They accused Abu Sharaiya of playing "a key role" in the Hamas-led assault in 2023 and being "directly involved in the abduction, detention, and killing of Israeli hostages."
U.S. Supreme Court grants DOGE access to Social Security data
The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday authorized officials from the Trump administration's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to access Social Security Administration data.
The lawsuit challenging DOGE's actions alleged that allowing broader access to personal information would violate a federal law called the Privacy Act, as well as the Administrative Procedure Act.
Iran ready for inspection of nuclear facilities, but won't accept coercion: president
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Saturday his country is ready for inspection of its nuclear facilities, but does not accept coercion.
Pezeshkian made the remarks in a meeting with Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu in the Iranian capital Tehran while commenting on the ongoing indirect nuclear talks between Tehran and Washington, according to a statement published on the website of his office.
Russia accuses Ukraine of postponing prisoner swap
Russia on Saturday accused Ukraine of indefinitely delaying a planned exchange of prisoners and the handover of fallen soldiers' bodies.
Russia has handed over the first list of 640 prisoners to Ukraine and begun transferring bodies of dead Ukrainian soldiers, but Ukrainian negotiators did not arrive at the exchange site, Russian Presidential Aide Vladimir Medinsky said in a telegram post.
China, EU discuss EV anti-subsidy case, brandy anti-dumping probe, export controls
China's Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao and European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maros Sefcovic held talks in Paris on June 3 on the EU's anti-subsidy case involving Chinese electric vehicles (EVs), China's anti-dumping investigation into brandy originating from the EU, and export control policies, a Ministry of Commerce spokesperson said Saturday.
The two sides conducted focused, candid and in-depth discussions on urgent and important issues including the above during their talks, and instructed their work teams to step up efforts to make economic and trade preparations for the important agenda between China and the EU this year, the spokesperson said.
Chinese medical team donates supplies to Ghanaian orphanage
The 14th batch of the Chinese medical team in Ghana on Saturday donated essential supplies and provided free medical services to an orphanage in Accra, the capital of the West African country.
The 11-member team delivered medications, toys, footballs, packs of mineral water, and stationery to the Motherly Love Orphanage, home to more than 60 children in a suburb of Accra.
