MAIMANA, Afghanistan, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Police have detained a weapon smuggler and seized arms and ammunition in north Afghanistan's Faryab province, a statement from the provincial police office said on Sunday.
The contraband was seized from the smuggler in the Qaisar district on Saturday, including three pieces of AKM assault rifles, 13 pistols, 20 hand grenades and hundreds of bullets and projectiles, the statement said, adding the local man had been taken into custody for further investigation.
Police also discovered a quantity of arms and ammunition including two Kalashnikov rifles in the Yusuf Khil district of the eastern Paktika province on Saturday.
The Afghan police have detained four individuals involved in drug trafficking and criminal activities in the eastern Parwan province recently, the Ministry of Interior Affairs said in a statement on Sunday.
