ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Pakistan repeated its appeal to the international community and relief organizations on Friday to help Afghanistan.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed relevant authorities to "explore bilateral cooperation with friendly countries" to avert a looming humanitarian crisis in the neighboring state by exporting qualified and trained personnel, particularly in the fields of medicine, information technology, finance, and accounting.
According to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), he also issued directives to expand cooperation in railways, mining, pharmaceuticals, and media to aid Afghanistan's rehabilitation and growth.
"Pakistan is determined to provide all-out help to the Afghan people to avert [a] humanitarian crisis," Prime Minister said as he presided over the third meeting of the Apex Committee on Afghanistan.
Prime Minister Imran applauded the United Nations' plea for assistance to Afghanistan.
The United Nations has urged the international community to deliver help to Afghanistan and unfreeze Afghan assets, citing a growing humanitarian crisis amid an economic collapse since the Taliban's takeover in August last year.
Earlier this week, the United Nations and its partners launched their largest-ever country-specific appeal for Afghanistan. According to Reuters, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged on Thursday for the suspension of laws prohibiting the use of money in Afghanistan to save lives, as well as a path to the conditional release of frozen Afghan foreign currency reserves.
According to UN organizations, Afghanistan's situation is one of the world's most quickly worsening humanitarian catastrophes.
