Provincial officials said a group of suicide bombers attacked a police station in eastern Afghanistan on Tuesday, killing at least 22 officers and wounding 18 others.
One attacker blew himself up at the gate of the headquarters in Pul-i-Alam, about 60 kilometers south of the capital, Kabul, provincial government spokesman Din Mohammad Darwesh said.
At least one other bomber detonated his explosives inside the compound where officers had gathered to eat.
Afghan Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the attack.
The attack on the police installation happened a day after Taliban insurgents killed at least 13 policemen in the southern Kandahar province.
State-run Bakhtar News Agency quoted a provincial police spokesman as saying the attack took place late Monday in the Maiwand district.Get a daily dose of Afghanistan Sun news through our daily email, its complimentary and keeps you fully up to date with world and business news as well.
